I have not play for a while so.
I need a good all around tanking build that uses a sword.
My warrior can roll anything

Tanking is bad, unless you have a full bar dedicated to damage while providing some utility.

Tanking, as in holding aggro for a short period of time to kill enemies off is good, although I really prefer to call that holding aggro instead.

The word "tank" will get you some flames here...

What you wan't is a build to hold agro, that is part of a good wars job.

Any good dmg build will do, just add in a snare such as [hamstring][Crippling Slash] or go war/ele and use [Grasping Earth]

Your target for the snare will either be the foe your party wishes to spike (ie grasping earth so your ele can Meteor Shower it) or wars/sins/dervs that are rushing your casters.

As far as you should go into the tanking sort of things is holding aggro. Take a damage build as you would normally, and just use on-field tactics to hold aggro.

Tanking is only used in farming not in regular group play and go for the castors first.

That's not opinion. That's fact.

It can be done by anyone to be honest. Although you shouldn't be taking a build for it, but just use prots on said target. Bodyblocking can be done by anything.

Sometimes Line backing is a bit more efficient for your team.

[auspicious parry][riposte][deadly riposte][shield bash][gash][troll unguent][lion's comfort]["watch yourself!"]

Or this [auspicious parry][riposte][deadly riposte][shield bash][gash][troll unguent][dolyak signet][healing signet] if there are a lot of non-melee knockdowns.

Though I don't know why you'd want to use a tanking build.

I think warriors would be great tankers IF guildwars had skills that gained aggro like some other mmorpgs. But they don't. Even if you manage to grab melee mobs and keep em with defensive stances or crippling them, the casters mostly aren't affected by slowing hexes/condtions and can still wail on your party from afar, which is kinda lame.

But if you flag h/h away from mobs and run in and stay there for around 5 seconds, THEN let your h/h come up and fight, usually the mobs won't move away from you unless something triggers them to like AoE.

But if you really wanna 'tank', the best bet is grasping earth and/or crippling slash. you COULD try KD chains with a hammer or AoE KD with earth shaker but then you lack 'tank armor'....but thats what monks are for right?

I dunno, just my 2 cents

The game actually use to have a mechanic for holding agro, simply holding an item, but it had to be removed once they added the Ritualist profession.

I would love to see an agro mechanic added to the game via a PvE only skill.

Note that wasn't so much to aid tanking as it was to make carrying an item more troublesome during combat.

it was removed to prevent exploiting AI with the release of factions and the many Ritualist item spells.

It was also a great day for guild wars. Although many players didn't get the message and still try to tank.

Aside from the [troll unguent] on a warrior and the [dolyak signet]+[healing signet] combo those builds arent half bad for tanking. But tanking is just bad. Just take [save yourselves (luxon)].

Holding aggro
[skill]grasping earth[/skill]

Obviously all [skill]earth shaker[/skill] suggestions are being removed

but with a sword? it's quite tempting to just [skill]dragon slash[/skill] through all those baddies unable to run from your might.

Then change [troll unguent][dolyak signet] for [enduring harmony][i am unstoppable]

Not tanking would be a better idea though :P
